Same Time Tomorrow

Part 33: First Night

When they broke away from each other, Allan stood back and looked at Carl, the younger man had a large grin spread across his face.

"That was awesome."

"It was a kiss."

"Nah, it was more than a kiss. It was, well, it was... Awesome!! I mean, as awesome in the story I read over the 'phone"

Allan laughed.

"So, you want to see the rest of this suite?"

"You mean there's more?"

"Of course, where do you think I sleep?"

"I dunno, I guess just seeing the size of this room, I never thought about it."

"Well, how about I show you."

"Lead the way."

Allan turned and Carl followed him to a door that, for some reason, he hadn't noticed before, or if he had, he had assumed that it was a wardrobe, or something.

Allan opened the door and let Carl lead the way inside. Nervousness now overcame them with a rushing force. They both tried to speak at the same time, only to have to apologise to one another and to say: "Sorry, please go ahead with what you wanted to say."

"I was just going to ask if you're sure you still want to spend the night?"

"Yeah, but, I was thinking that maybe I should sleep on the floor, or something. I mean this is your room."

Allan laughed.

"What's so funny?"

"Well, I was just going to say that you take the bed as my guest."

"Oh!"

It was then that the usual bickering took place of the 'I insist' kind until finally they both gave up and decided to share the bed with the agreement of 'no funny business'.

"Seems such a shame," said Allan.

"Why?"

"Well, I was hoping we might pick up where we left off in the other room."

"I'd like that, but you had a long flight and I know you're tired and, besides, we agreed."

"I know. Fair enough."

"If you'd prefer I left, I will."

"No chance. You, my friend, are going nowhere."

Carl smiled.

"Okay, the bathroom is just through that door if you want to pee or anything," said Allan, indicating a door in the opposite wall.

"Well, yeah, actually, I think I need to, thanks."

As Carl disappeared, Allan took the opportunity to return to the suite's main room and turn out the lights and then he returned to the bedroom and turned back the bed and when Carl re-appeared again Allan asked him which side he would prefer.

"I'm not bothered, whatever you want is fine by me."

"Okay, well, I may as well take the left, as I'm here already," he laughed.

Allan turned out all the lights except the one on the nightstand on his side of the bed and began to unbutton his shirt. Carl, now a little nervous again, removed his jacket and tie and began to unbutton his shirt, too.

He placed them over a chair and then sat on the edge of the bed and removed his shoes and socks and stood again to remove his trousers. Allan had already stripped down to his underwear and as Carl turned they just looked at one another.

Carl spoke first.

"What are you staring at?"

At that Allan jumped. He hadn't realised that he had been staring at Carl.

"Sorry, I didn't know I was staring."

Carl laughed: "I thought maybe I had two heads, or something."

"Well, technically, you have," laughed Allan, "but, I guess, what I was looking at was just the most beautiful person I have ever seen in my life."

Carl felt himself blushing at that.

"No I'm not," was all he could say, as he jumped into the bed and pulled up the sheets.

"Hey, I thought you slept naked," said Allan, with a touch of indignation.

"I do. Usually."

"But not tonight?"

Carl laughed and wriggled around in the bed for a moment and then pulled out his arm and held up a hand holding his underwear and deposited them on the floor.

"Now that is awesome," said Allan, as he crawled into the bed, covered up and reached over and turned out the light.

"Hey, I thought you slept naked, too."

"Darn, I didn't think you'd notice."

"Yeah, right! Get 'em off!"

Allan laughed and Carl could feel him wriggling around and in the shadow of the darkened room he made out Allan throwing his own underwear out of the bed.

"That's much better," said Carl, with smug satisfaction.

As tired as they both were, they lay in the bed and talked for most of the night, like a couple of schoolchildren on a sleepover, though this was more exciting as they both knew that the other was naked and, because of their earlier agreement, both were unavailable to the other. It was an agreement they both desperately wanted to break, but one that, somehow, both were determined to stick to.

This was the first night of the rest of their lives, not only the first time to meet, but the first night to spend together and somewhere during the night they finally fell asleep; and somehow in the night they had wriggled together and, in so doing, found the most peaceful night of sleep either of them could ever remember.

It was going to be okay.
